Accurate yield forecasts through consistently high-quality modelling

At AL-PRO, sophisticated modelling techniques are standard practice – at every site and at no extra cost.

For EVERY SITE, we use three-dimensional CFD flow modelling in conjunction with high-resolution time-series modelling. This enables us, in particular, to take realistic account of atmospheric stability and its changes over time. As stability effects occur at all sites and have a significant influence on the wind profile and flow conditions, this approach fundamentally provides an improved physical basis for yield forecasting – even in terrain that might appear straightforward.

The quality of the input data is just as crucial to the quality of the model as the model itself. Our extensive GIS expertise enables us to produce highly detailed representations of terrain, surface features and vegetation. We are particularly able to model forest areas with a high degree of spatial accuracy – and, provided the necessary data is available, we can even take individual trees and their actual heights into account.

Large-scale atmospheric influences are also assessed on a site-specific basis. For each project, we examine whether it is appropriate to couple the CFD modelling with a mesoscale model. Where necessary, we use Meteodyn’s Meso-Micro-Coupling to incorporate mesoscale flow influences into the local modelling.

These sophisticated modelling methods form an integral part of our day-to-day work. All AL-PRO consultants have extensive experience in applying and evaluating them. The choice of modelling methods is based solely on the technical requirements of the site – not on additional costs.

All the modelling services described are included in our yield assessments – at no extra cost.

From January 2027, we will also be expanding our assessments to include a separate evaluation and presentation of the potential impacts of climate change on long-term wind energy yield. This service is also included at no extra cost.
